Boaters who intend to sail to Corsica are being warned of a new swinging anchoring tax in public waters
– and the signs are that the tax is being introduced throughout the French coast.
The 20 Euro-per-metre tax has been voted in on Corsican public waters on the 3rd March 2015, without any service provided, not even a single mooring buoy.
The tax only applied to the marine protected areas of Bonifacio Strait and Scandola managed by public authorities but there are fears it will spread to all areas.
It may expand to cover a large portion of the French coast; some estimates say as much of 50% by 2020.
